ICCP protection for any structure

WWI ICCP systems are supplied for semi-submersibles and jack-up rigs operating throughout the world in locations ranging from the South Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico to the North Sea and Arctic waters off Russia.

OFFSHORE

T his background of experience enables WWI’s corrosion engineers to design systems which provide the optimum level of protection against corrosion throughout the life of the structure.

ICCP systems consist of an arrangement of anodes and reference electrodes which are wired to one or more control panels. The reference electrodes monitor the electrical potential at the hull/seawater interface and send a reading to the control panel which automatically raises or lowers the output to the anodes.

The current from the anodes neutralises corrosion cells on the surface of the structure and eliminates differences in potential caused by weld seam material and the proximity of different types or grades of steel.

WWI’s expertise is in positioning the anodes to achieve the most effective pattern of current ‘spread’ and avoiding areas of ‘shadowing’. In some instances this requires the use of a combination of ICCP and sacrificial anodes.

Semi-submersibles and jack-up rigs generally have long periods between drydocking. WWI anodes and reference electrodes are designed to last up to 15 years and are diver changeable if replacement due to damage is necessary before this time.

There are significant differences between protecting FPSOs/FSOs and normal seagoing vessels against hull corrosion.

The most important is that FPSOs/FSOs generally remain on station for many years without drydocking. Therefore, it is an advantage if key components such as anodes and reference electrodes are diver changeable.

Another factor which needs to be taken into consideration is the ‘current drain’ caused by anchor chains.

In most cases PSOs and FSOs are supplied with forward and aft ICCP systems. Because the vessel is stationary when in operation, both of these systems have a similar output, generally in the region of 300amps.

WWI’s new range of C-Max anodes are diver changeable and emit a powerful current from a relatively small surface area. This means that fewer anodes are required and the number of hull penetrations is subsequently reduced. Features include self-snapping torque nuts which speed up the installation process.

WWI Aquamatic® v6, CPU

The new range of Aqumatic® control panels make ICCP systems easier to control and monitor. In addition to providing the power supply, they store comprehensive information about the performance of the system.
An MODBUS link enables this data to be relayed to a control room or bridge computer system. Another advantage is that the data can be uploaded to a USB stick and an emailed to WWI for analysis, avoiding the need to complete and return paper log sheets.

OFFSHORE

Elliptical or Lineal anodes – diver changeable

The key feature of Elliptical or Lineal anodes is that they are diver changeable – an important consideration for FPSOs with long dry docking intervals. Lightweight and easy to handle, they have a small footprint, but emit a relatively powerful current from a small surface area. They are fitted using self-torquing snap nuts, greatly reducing the time an effort taken by divers when replacement is carried out at sea.

MGPS protection for any structure

FPSOs generally have numerous seawater intakes serving engine cooling, product processing, fire fighting and a range of auxiliary services which can include provision of a potable water supply. It is essential that all of these functions are protected by an effective and reliable marine growth prevention system.

T his background of experience enables WWI’s corrosion engineers to design systems which provide the optimum level of protection against corrosion throughout the life of the structure.
